Three days after returning from Brazil, I celebrated my 29th birthday with my little family. Mike offered to bake me a birthday cake, but I opted for a Starbucks java chip ice-cream instead. They don't have Starbucks here, but they do have Starbucks ice-cream at Value Mart! They do run out occasionally but they usually re-stock it after a week or so. But who's keeping track...right? :) I can't afford to buy it every week since it costs about $10 U.S....so it was a special treat! We enjoyed a "date-night" after Megumi went to bed with some yummy Indian take-out and a movie. It was a lovely birthday!

Then we had our first visitors from the States! The E family came to stay with us for 10 days. They are family to us and we had an incredible time. It all went by so fast...too fast! Then we had the H Family come visit the island for a week. They stayed the last few days of their trip with us and it was so much fun to have them. Both families brought lots of goodies from the States for us. It was like Christmas all over again! We are enjoying those treats slowly...trying to make it last.
We enjoyed the beach, drove around the island, went on hikes, did tourist things, ate yummy food and had lots of great conversations!

I had a chance to try snorkling for the first time! I know...I live on an island for 6 months and haven't gone snorkling? It's hard to believe. But it's true! It's hard to do things like that when you have a 20 months old daughter. But since we had our friends who were willing to play with her in the sand while we went snorkling, Mike gave me a snorkling lesson. He is a very patient man. I probably drank enough salt water to satisfy my salt intake for the week. I think I really need to get over it mentally but it's so hard to relax and know that I can breath under water. The E family got to see a turtle, lobsters, squid, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, trumpet fish, and other amazing things on their snorkling trip. Although it was amazing how many fish I got to see right at the shore of the beach, I want to see a turtle too! I guess I'll just have to keep practicing until I get comfortable! It'll help when I get my own set of snorkling gear.

Having our friends here to visit was such a treat! It's so fun to share our new life here on the island with them. But it's hard after they leave because we miss them so much more! Megumi kept walking around the house looking for her "uncle" and "auntie" after all our visitors left. The house seems too quiet with just us three. I think I'm more homesick now then I was when I first arrived here. Good thing we have more visitors coming in a week! We don't have any visitors "booked" after that...so let us know when you want to come visit us. We would love to show you around!
