Seventh-Day Adventist Dental Clinic

"So what brings you to St. Kitts?"  When I meet other foreigners here on the island, they usually assume that I'm a student at the veterinary school.  They are surprised when I share with them that my husband Mike, is a dentist and the clinic director at the Seventh-day Adventist Dental Clinic.  But I'm also surprised how often people (both local and foreigners) come up to Mike and say "You are the dentist right?  I need to come see you soon!"  (Like this last Sunday morning at the beach!)

The clinic is located on the first floor.
We hope to have a new sign up soon!

The former dentist built up a great reputation for the clinic over the last 15 years of his service.  Mike hopes to maintain the clinic's excellent reputation.  Since arriving in September, he has been trying to bring the clinic into the 21st century.  Through some limited clinic funds and many donations he has been able to digitize the clinics records and practice management system.  He also started to integrate diode laser technology ("soft tissue laser"...I had to ask since I'm not familiar with the dental lingo!) into the practice.

However, the years of service that the clinic has provided has taken it's toll.  There are a lot of work to be done.  Here are some of the things on the "to-do list": Put up a new sign out front, put in new windows, new cabinets, new furniture...you get the idea!  But change takes time, especially in the Caribbean!

At the end of March we had the S family come visit us for a week and they brought lots of goodies for us!  We felt so loved that our friends at LLA went out of their ways to remember us.  One of the big suitcases was full of children's books that were donated by the students and the families of Mrs. C's first grade class at LLA.  They heard about my desire to replace the few worn out children's books at the clinic and they sprang into action!  We are so touched by their generosity!  They especially included many Christian books which we hope will be another tool to share God's love with the people that walk into the clinic.

Megumi was SO excited to see all the books!

After....

Mike and I believe the S.D.A Dental Clinic gives us the unique opportunity to interact and to build relationships with people here on the island.  Not only do we want to provide an excellent dental care but we also want to share God's love.  We pray and hope that the clinic will be a place where the Holy Spirit can work through us to plants seeds of the Gospel in people’s hearts.  So next time you brush your teeth...send up a little prayer for our clinic here in St. Kitts! :)
